The Maid - Is This Movie As Good As You've Heard? (REVIEW)

When multiple people contact me and say "Have you seen The Maid yet? You'll love it" - then I need to pay attention to that statement.

Good thing is those people knew me very well. I watched it, and I loved it. What an incredible final third! It reminds me so much of the Indonesian movie Forbidden Door.

But don't take my written word for it - watch this movie review I made instead!

Sugar Street Studio - Is This A Return of the Hong Kong Comedy Horror? (REVIEW)

This movie was a surprise, I wasn't expecting this - and when I did watch it I wasn't expecting it to be so damn enjoyable.

There is a lot of love behind the production of this movie, and it could go down in history as one of, if not the last, Hong Kong horror film due to all the silly co-production rules and new laws in Hong Kong.

A throwback to the classic Shaw Brothers et al style of films, there is some camp and schlock, but its perfect! I hope you enjoy watching my review as much as I enjoyed watching this film.

Limbo - Is This The Best Asian Movie Of 2021 So Far? - REVIEW

WOW! I could just make the review that word and you get the idea of my thoughts. It's an incredible, gritty, tough to watch movie from the director of SPL2 and The Monkey King trilogy.

Starring Gordon Lam, who finally gets an opportunity to lead an exciting movie, and Cya Liu (Yase) who puts in the performance of her career, this is what Category 3 movies from Hong Kong are all about.

Sublime cinematography mixed in with slick CGI, excellent editing and a compelling story combine to create one of the best movies of 2021.

Enjoy my review:

Bootleg DVDs - What Titles Are In My Collection?

Around the turn of the century when DVD was insanely popular, bootleg and pirated discs started emerging from Asia and Russia.

While most people probably associate pirated DVDs with movies that have been recorded in a cinema with a video camera, the pirates in China were actually printing up decent quality discs - some of which I bought!

In this video I will give you a tour of some of the bootleg DVDs in my collection - specifically the Asian titles. And I'll also give you a quick view of the quality of what some of these discs are like, including some of the dodgy looking menus. Enjoy

Ghost Lab - Is Netflix's Latest Thai Chiller As Good As It Looks? - REVIEW

Netflix have done it again! They've bought the rights up to yet another interesting Asian film - this time a horror thriller from the masters of original horror films - Thailand!

Dynasty Warriors - Best Asian Game to Movie adaption ever? - REVIEW

When Uncle Louis (Mr Cool) makes a new movie, I watch. And pay attention, studying his moves, he demeanor, his presence.

Except this movie where he dresses up as a silly warrior from ancient times.

But, this is damn good movie. Just like the game, only in movie form. And nothing like the game. But damn good!

Also, fuck Netflix for denying the world a cinematic release of this film.

Home Sweet Home - Home Alone with Aaron Kwok and Zifeng Zhang - REVIEW

Under any circumstance, if you told me I could spend time home alone with Zifeng Zhang, I'd jump at it.

But this house she lives in is creepy, and so is her family.

And this is an average film that isn't as cool as it thinks it is.

Homunculus - A Movie As Confusing As Its Bloody Title - REVIEW

I won't lie... I knew nothing about this movie. And after watching it, I still know nothing about this movie.

Why is Netflix buying these stupid movies? Surely there are better Japanese movies they can fund and release, right?

Slate - Girls Kicking Ass in a Fantasy World - REVIEW

Yeah! Now this is more like it.

This movie is a lot of fun. Just a pure ass-kicking action movie about a up and coming stuntwoman who thinks she deserves the lead role in a film, and then gets thrust into a situation to test her skills.

The Soul - Taiwanese sci-fi thriller on Netflix!

So I got tricked, I ended up watching the Mainland Chinese version rather than the proper Netflix one. This means I got a different (shit) ending and the nude scene was cut out.

Watch the Netflix version instead. My review below is based on the Mainland China version.

Also warning: SPOILERS in the video
